On behalf of Kallie Schafers, a couple of her closest friends from the horse community wanted to get together to help raise money for a tragic riding accident that all of us fear the most.
On Sunday January 6th, Kallie fell off head first in a freak accident that caused her to break her C1 and her C2 vertebrae in what is known as a Jefferson’s fracture. Luckily her guardian angel must have been smiling down on her because she narrowly escaped both paralysis and death, which are common outcomes associated with this injury. She was transported to the hospital where she had to undergo an extensive high risk surgery to help stabilize the fractures with rods and a plate. Thankfully she sailed through it and after multiple nights in the hospital she was released to continue her healing at home.
While the worst part may be over, Kallie has months of healing in a cervical collar along with numerous doctors appointment and physical therapy sessions still to face. Unfortunately, it will be a little while before she will be able to teach again. With hopes of riding a distant goal in the future. In the meantime, as we all know, the bills don’t stop coming and we as her friends wanted to reach out to the community for help to cover the cost of both her monthly bills and the expensive emergency surgery bills that have started coming in.
We are hoping to alleviate some of the stress Kallie’s facing through this incredibly difficult time. Any amount of donation is appreciated.
