Defeat Diabetes is a basketball team competing in the 2022 TBT, playing to benefit those with Type 1 Diabetes co-founded by Jalen Nesbitt and Cristina Desemone. The TBT is an annual $1M, single-elimination basketball tournament aired on ESPN and ESPN2.
Jalen, Spartanburg, SC born, is a 7-year professional basketball player in Europe who has participated in and followed the TBT for years. After meeting Cristina, who has been living with Type 1 Diabetes since 2006, the couple believed that they could do more together to advocate for those with diabetes. And thus, Defeat Diabetes was born! With Jalen’s passion and knowledge of basketball and Cristina’s history managing her T1DM, a clear goal was set in motion to develop a team that would benefit in finding a cure.
