Sophia’s Story

SOPHIA UPDATE:
Hi everyone. My family and I want to say thank you to everyone who has read our story. Sophia is our 4th child and our miracle baby. We are beyond amazed and proud of her. Despite all that she has endured in her life thus far and the challenges she will face, she continues to thrive and show us that she is here for a greater purpose.
Sophia was medically discharged on May 3, 2025, and since then she has had 2 emergency hospital visits which have resulted in her being admitted both times for many days. She was just released yesterday, June 12, 2025, after being admitted for 8 days.
This has caused our family a lot of emotional stress and worry because as her parents, we want to make sure that she is ok and will be ok. As a mom, it was very hard for me to leave her in the hospital alone to be cared for by staff and nurses. So my husband and I took turns being in the hospital. While one of us was with Sophia, the other was with our other children taking care of them and their needs.
This allowed one of us to always be with Sophia and to be able to speak with the many doctors, nurses, surgeons and residents that were handling her care, however; on the other hand, it has caused us a big financial stress and loss, as my husband has had to miss many days of work. This has taken a strain on us so we have setup a GoFundMe to help us now and for the future care of Sophia. At this moment, we are asking for your help and support. Whatever help, no matter how small it is, will be greatly appreciated. Again, our family thanks you. Lots of Love, The Miranda’s.

First, thank you so much for clicking our link and showing interest in our situation. I haven’t properly introduced her yet, but this is baby Sophia, my latest miracle and blessing.

You see, at 25 weeks into my pregnancy, she was diagnosed with two very rare life-threatening conditions: Fetal Hydrops and a right-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. I had to have two in utero fetal procedures that bought us some time. I then got into a car accident, which turned my third procedure that I needed to get into an emergency c-section. She was born premature at 31 weeks, and on day one of life, she had her first surgery to repair her hernia. She fought very hard, having to be intubated and have a chest tube placed, and she recovered.

In her last step of recovery, she then developed another life-threatening illness called Necrotizing Enterocolitis. She was then rushed to emergency surgery where they had to remove a portion of her bowel. She had a second surgery two days later where they removed even more bowel. She fought extremely hard, and because we serve an amazing God, she is still with us today. She spent 70 days in the NICU and is now in an intestinal rehab center.

I say all of this to show the toll it’s taken on our family. It’s just me and my husband and with his hours at work being cut to almost less than half of what it use to, it’s been very difficult making ends meet. She is almost two hours away from us, and it’s been very hard juggling her health and our other children.
