Funeral Expenses for Laura Calderwood (Lowery)
Hello, my name is Felicity, and I am Laura's granddaughter. My grandma is almost 70 years old and as with everyone who knows her in our small town, this came as an almost unbearable shock. My grandma is a very sweet, and caring lady. She offers love, faith and knowledge to everyone(humans and animals), everywhere she goes. She's lived in Taft and Maricopa her whole life, raising six children, nursing countless animals back to health, and has been blessed with twenty grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She's been a member of the Church of Christ her whole life, and even helped to build it. Most people in our small town know her as Blondie, taxi lady, or the sweet Kmart lady, but to us she's Teddygrams. Being around grandma, is much like what I imagine it'd be like to be in the presence of an Angel. She's the glue to our family, and still has so much love to give.
On Sunday August 8th, Grandma was seen at Urgent Care in Taft for back pain from a previous fall. After X-Rays, they prescribed pain medication, informed her there were no fractures and sent her home. My mom, Ellie, knew something was wrong and took Grandma to the Emergency Room in Bakersfield. The Emergency Room conducted an X-Ray, multiple MRI's, and blood tests, in which they found multiple fractures in her lumbar and in her ribs. They also found multiple lesions throughout her body. After running more in-depth tests they discovered it was Stage 4 metastatic cancer. We are still waiting for the Oncologist to determine the type and where it started. Unfortunately, at this time she's lost her ability to sit up, walk, and lacks an appetite. Due to COVID, we are only allowed to visit her during visiting hours and no one can stay overnight with her. We are asking for prayers and donations so we can continue to visit her, pay for her funeral plan, help with her bills as well as my mom's, who is out of work because she has been given power of attorney and is required to make medical and treatment decisions for my grandma.
It is with sorrowful hearts we ask everyone to help in at least one way:
- Pray for her safe passage into the Kingdom of Heaven
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" -- Isaiah 41:10.

If you know my Grandma personally or would like to follow her journey, I have created a Facebook group where you can share any pictures you have of her, or your favorite memories so we can continue to put a smile on her face and remind her of the joy she's experienced throughout her life and of all the people she's been blessed to meet and create a bond with.
