You may have seen or have had the privilege of meeting this proud environmental service worker in the halls or hospital rooms of the famous Mayo Clinic.
Meet Danni Wendt, a 15 year employee that is devoted and hard working. Danni has an unforgettable face with that great smile and awesome sense of humor. He is the type that will make a stranger smile even on their worst day, and if he can’t “Houston we have a problem.” He brings light to a rainy day with just his smile and is always spoken highly of. Danni is the positive in the room, his friends and family can second that, as do I.
Danni was born in 1956 and graduated from Wabasha-Kellogg in 1975. He met Cindy in 1975 and married her in 1979. They have 1 son and 2 daughters followed by a grandson and a set of twin grandsons. These are their happy days. Danni and Cindy live on a hobby farm and one of their favorite past times is showing and teaching local kids about the farm. Horses, goats, cows, chickens, peacocks, and ducks are some of the animals they so love and teach kids about.
On August 27 Danni didn’t make it to work; which is unlike him. A wonderful lady found him breathing, but unconscious in his work parking lot. She called 911 and had the ambulance come at just the right time. Danni woke up in the ICU he was suffering from a second stroke. He then had a brain bleed which got him back in neurological ICU. For over 2 months he has to undergo 2 brain surgeries and had to have a shunt placed. With Covid still at large he was only allowed one visitor the entire time.
Danni has been released for a week, but still has to do rehab, learn to walk, speech therapy, and relearn to do all simple and involuntary activities again.
Meanwhile, Cindy is now working solely to take care of the hobby farm, animals, and Danni. She is doing her best through a pandemic, spent her time off in the hospital, and now has to extend her leave to care for Danni 24/7. With their kids being upstate or out of state they don’t have much too fall back on except generous friends and family members. This has been hard on the whole family as they are very close.
2020 has been hard on us all, and everyone has suffered. Danni and Cindy are facing extreme hardships with retirement around the corner; they don’t want to admit it but they need help. We can join together to help these wonderful people and make a difference not only for them, but their family, and animals! Anything can help thank you so much and God bless!!
My friend put this together but I’m Katie Wendt one of the daughters and all money will go towards medical bills and upkeep of the hobby farm.
