Our family is asking for support for my amazing Uncle Ryan, who is currently facing a difficult and unexpected cancer diagnosis.

At the beginning of January, Ryan became very sick and was hospitalized in the ICU for five days after developing blood clots in his lungs. During this frightening time, doctors discovered swollen lymph nodes in his neck that required further testing.

After a CT scan and surgery to remove and biopsy one of the lymph nodes, doctors confirmed that Ryan has Metastatic Cell Carcinoma. The cancer has spread to multiple lymph nodes in his neck, and further testing revealed that both of his tonsils are affected. He is currently classified as Stage 4.

While this diagnosis is overwhelming, we are grateful that doctors say his prognosis is very good and that there is a clear treatment plan moving forward.

Ryan will soon undergo surgery to remove both tonsils, followed by an aggressive treatment plan that includes radiation five days a week for seven weeks along with weekly chemotherapy. This treatment will take a significant toll on his body, especially his throat, and there will likely be a period where eating and drinking become extremely difficult as he works through recovery.

Anyone who knows Ryan knows how strong he is. He is truly tough as nails, and we have no doubt he will face this battle with incredible courage.

During this difficult time, our family is asking for support to help with the financial burden that comes with cancer treatment, including medical expenses, travel to appointments, and time away from work during recovery. Ryan’s wife, my aunt Renee, will also be taking time away from work to care for him and be by his side throughout treatment.
