I’ve created a go fund me to help cover my Dads medical needs and expenses. If you know my Mom, you know she is a very private person and will never ever ask for help. In fact, most of you probably don’t even know the struggle my parents have been going through for just about the past 2 years. Up until June of 2017 my Dad was working full time and living a normal life. It all started with the company he worked for purchasing safety boots that were required. My Dad has been a diabetic for the past 12 years, the neuropathy in his feet kept him from feeling a sore on his right foot. This sore became infected and even through a hospital stay was left untreated. During that hospital stay it was also discovered he has a broken ankle, again which he couldn’t feel. He needed surgery to repair his ankle and the doctor wouldn’t do it until the sore was healed. Meanwhile the bacteria in that sore festered and went into his bone. During 2018 he was hospitalized more then he was home. He was diagnosed with a rare condition called Osteomyelitis. This is a bone infection that never really goes away. He had a few surgeries to clean out dead and infected bone and tissue, heart surgery - two stents put in nearly closed arteries and spent half the year on antibiotics. He finally came home free of antibiotics in August. In September the symptoms returned and we had taken him to two different emergency rooms a total of 5 times. Each and every time my Mom asking if this could be the Osteomyelitis flaring up. Every response was no, everything looked fine. On Christmas Day my Dad discovered a huge blister/ sore on the heel of his right foot. A few days later was in excruciating pain and the sore was certainly infected. This time we chose a new hospital and once we saw the ER Doc there was an immediate admission. Testing begun and antibiotics started. He was very sick, the Osteomyelitis had certainly not ever gone away and had continued to eat away at the bones in his foot and ankle. The muscle and tissue had all become necrotic and he needed an amputation. A week ago he had a below the knee amputation and is slowly improving and trying to figure out his new normal. Now we are playing games with the insurance company. Denying him the acute rehab that he truly needs. Denying him both a walker and a wheelchair “Because they do the same thing”. Telling my Mom that they aren’t going to pay for his prosthetic leg. His medical bills have been piling up for months and now there are and will be even more. Just a prosthetic leg and the associated costs will be between $5,000 and $20,000. Meanwhile the hospital bills are pouring in..
