Who is Ryan?
RDLR.... just saying his name can invoke different emotions depending on the depth of your relationship with Ryan. If you’re creative enough, you will be able to come up with your own emoji icon to describe your feelings towards him.
Ryan is an interesting individual to say the least. There’s a certain chuckle that is identifiably his and this loud booming voice you can hear within quarter of a mile radius. Within that 5 minutes depending on the topic of your conversation, you would have formulated an opinion of him that may be hard to undo.
If you happen to know him, we can’t blame you if thoughts start to form after knowing about his accident because as close friends, we did the same after our initial shock. But as one of the people that are closest to him, we’re hoping and praying to God that he will recover from this to the point of good and full functional recovery.
Ryan stands out as a past FEUNRMF student when he ran for Student Council President independently with no other officers. Just himself. A non-conformist in his own right, and he has always been like that.
Ryan’s high and low moments were palpable when he has life changes that involves his family. His highest high was not the travels that you see in his social media by himself with his buwis-buhay shots( although he always looks forward to each country he can visit ), it is always when he is able to travel to see his parents and siblings and nieces and nephews most especially when he got to travel with them.
His lowest low that we’ve seen him was when his parents passed. Since then he was more subdued, more quiet than his usual. His father’s passing a couple of years ago was the final blow to his sanity. He made decisions that are not quite him. He turned to his love of traveling and photography to seek comfort. Prior to this, Ryan has always set up his calendar year into number of work months then travel days/weeks. But he was unable to do it this time for personal reasons. It took a long while for him to get back to work and live life again as the Ryan we know and love.
We were thankful when he said to us, “I think I’m making it now. Not where I want to be but at least I’m feeling ok “ on our meet up for Abigail’s birthday weekend in July. He showed up for lunch after working and told us about his trip and his #pobremoves to visit a friend. Ryan will not be Ryan if he is stuck in one place or if he didn’t visit a friend. He can live on a granola bar and a banana for days if it would mean he will be able to go somewhere. We were on a group thread so we would know where and how he is. It’s quite enviable how he seizes any opportunity to be carefree.... we thought the old Ryan’s back because he was smiling like he used to. He took pictures of himself that only he can think of doing at this age. He can make fun of himself again. He plans to go to places where his sturdy shoes will let him.
24 hours after his text to us about a foot long sandwich that he is about to devour, he sent 2 pictures of his current breathtaking view at that time. No text. Just mountain pictures. A few hours later, came the texts and calls that no one wants to receive: Ryan was in an accident and is in critical condition.
We know we are in a global pandemic and all of us are in various situations that none of us wants to be in. But by the Grace of God, I hope you can find it in your hearts to help us help Ryan at this time of need. He doesn’t know it yet but our Mr. Independent and free spirited
Ryan will find himself in a situation where he will need all the help he can get. We can only hope that you will be that lift, wheelchair, crutch or cane as he recovers as you extend help. Most of all, find it in your heart to look beyond who he was and see him the way he is at the moment, a person in need.
Please include Ryan and his love ones in your prayers for recovery.
