I am Tom Steward, a licensed psychotherapist in New Mexico and British Columbia. I have traveled to Mbiko, Uganda on many occasions to provide services at a center that rescues women and children caught in human sexual trafficking. My dear friend, Martin Oketcho, and I have been strategizing about how we can better respond to this need. We have formed what is now known as Ryan Rehabilitation Foundation. We are in the process of building two houses, one in Mbiko, near Jinja, and one in Tororo, near the border of Kenya. These houses are being built to provide a place for sexually trafficked women and children to go to escape life on the streets. Our aim is to provide these individuals a place to live so they won’t have to return to prostitution. We are developing programs to offer rehabilitation services and counselling, as well as skills and a trade so they can earn an income.
