Open Hearts - Baby Summit and Chad
Donation protected
Summit Goodyear was born on December 4th, 2015. He has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a rare and serious congential heart defect. He had open-heart surgery at five days old, and will need another two open-heart surgeries before he turns 3. Without these surgeries, HLHS is fatal. Summit was in the NICU for 39 days after he was born.
Summit's daddy, Chad, has a heart defect as well. Chad underwent open-heart surgery in January 2015 to correct his defect, but unfortunately the operation was not successful. Chad had a second open-heart surgery to place a mechanical aortic valve on October 26th, 2015. The recovery from this operation is long and arduous. Currently, he cannot drive or lift anything at all, including their 4-year-old daughter Aspen. He will not be able to to work again until the spring of 2016.
Chad, Summer, and Aspen have had to leave their home in the mountains of Northern Colorado. They are living in Loveland and commuting to Denver frequently for Summit's appointments. Summer will not be able to work for the forseeable future, so although Chad will be able to return to work in the spring, they will still lose half their income.
The Goodyears are in need of a lot of help during this difficult time. The financial burden the Goodyears are up against may cost them their home, which they built from the ground up - your donations will help them keep their home. Your donations will give Chad a comfotable place to recover from his second open-heart surgery in a year, and give Summit and his mommy a nice place to stay until he is strong enough to go home to the mountain. Your donations will help Chad and Summer not worry about buying food or paying rent while their new son undergoes dangerous surgeries, battles infection risks, and fights the 'stop-breathing' episodes that are common in babies with HLHS. Your donations will allow Aspen to have some sense of normalcy while her family's life is turned upside down. Your donations will help save the Goodyears.
