Menstrual Kit Drive for Visually Impaired Students
Donation protected
For girls in developing countries, menstruation often means missing a week of school every month. When your family struggles to put food on the table, the purchase of sanitary products on a monthly basis is impossible.
Such difficulties are exponentially toughened when the girls are visually impaired students without a sustainable support system. This GoFundMe account is, therefore, created to raise funds that will be used to support female visually impaired students of Mekelle Merahe-Ewran school.
Mekelle Merahe-Ewran School is a boarding school located in the city of Mekelle, Tigray-Northern Ethiopia. The school was established in 1985 as a way-station for blind children between the ages of 6-17 and accommodates around 100 students at the moment. Of these 100 students, female students account for 56 per cent.
As one would expect, conditions at this small boarding school are harsh and the female students are often forced to resort to old un-sanitized scraps of cloth, dirty rags, or even leaves to manage their periods, however, these methods are dangerous to their health, often leading to genital infections.
With your kind donations, we hope to make life a little bit easier for these visually impaired yet brilliant female students of Merahe-Ewran school by providing them with a Sanitary Kit that will last them for a year.
The kit will contain:
* 12 packs of disposable sanitary pads.
* 10 pairs of new underwear and
* 12 bars of soap.
With these necessary supplies at their disposal, the students will be able to focus on their education and brighten their future rather than worrying about menstruation.
Help us help economically disadvantaged…visually impaired female students stay in school and achieve their dreams!
No donation is small and every penny you give is duly appreciated!
