Help a Single Mom Get Back on the Road

 

Hey. My name is Za'Keya, better known as Mama Z. I'm 24 and a single mother to a gorgeous 4 year old girl. We live alone, and I work very hard to make ends meet for us both through my new small business and work. I was blessed to have saved enough money to buy a car for us in 2020 after 2 years of strict use of public transportation, which has made things MUCH easier (and frankly, less expensive and time-consuming!).

 

Wednesday night, July 14th, 2021, someone in my neighborhood set off a gun outside my home, where the bullets struck my car. One bullet shot straight through my windshield, creating a hole and a series of cracks throughout. The second and third bullets went into the hood of my car, where it struck my car's engine, penetrated the inside of it, and cracked the engine. The car I worked so hard for... the car that granted my daughter and I an easier lifestyle, is no longer drivable.

 

Grocery trips, doctor's appointments, work, daycare, overall convenience, and so much more was immediately threatened with this incident, so I filed a police report, but with an apartment complex whose cameras 'don't work', and a local community not willing to come forward, nothing came of it besides the finding out I wasn't 'targeted'. This is simply a case of an unlucky setback, and it's affected my small family in one of the worst ways.

 

I realize I need to lower my pride and ask for help. I can't do this alone.

I need to rely on my community for an extra boost this time, because I cannot afford to return to a life of frequent overpriced Lyft trips and waiting for the bus in Nashville heat with a toddler during a pandemic.

 

The goal is to A) pay for service repair of my windshield and engine, whose total costs are estimated to vary $5,000-$7,000, and are still being researched and compared or B) purchase another reliable used car
