Bucks for Becky

Becky is my Grandmother, and I'm Kaeleigh. In October of this year (just a few short months ago), her life was flipped upside down. At almost 83, my grandmother was full of life. Always busy around the house making homemade soups and gardening. She loved to be at home and in her own space, but that didn't make her lazy. From walks around town (miles and miles of walking) to her long to-do lists, she has always been busy. A busy woman with the most gentle heart. Every time the family visits, she cooks meals and yummy treats (she makes the BEST pecan pie in the world)! She used to listen to me cry and complain about the silly things of life and comfort me when I got sick. Until recently, she took great care of my Grandpa, fixing his meals, preparing his meds, and simply being there for him. Ask anyone who knows Becky; she is simply the best. This is all how she was before October of this year.

In October, she suffered what is called a Thyroid Storm. Her thyroid literally caused a storm within her body. It led to heart failure, weakness, brain fog, weight loss, and so much more. At first, it seemed we could see some significant recovery; it now seems this storm hit harder than anyone thought. Becky now has a pacemaker, has been in and out of the hospital, and just stayed at a rehab facility where we saw little to no progress. Becky now needs 24/7 care and cannot do most basic things on her own. Although we would love to see this care continue in a designated facility, that is not possible due to insurance issues.

As a result, my Grandpa and Mom, along with some other family members (including myself), have begun taking care of my Grandma, Becky. Also, my Grandpa is left with many bills due to multiple hospital stays and even more bills on the horizon. We are all exhausted, and other than helping with physical care, there is not much help in terms of bills and purchases for her ongoing needs and medications.

We are a family of prayer, and I believe God will get us through this! We would be so thankful if he calls you to be a part of our story.
