Shockey Family Fundraiser

Family and Friends of the Shockeys,

My dear friends have been struck with a traumatic medical event. The Shockeys have been our friends for years and they are loved by many. Please read below and donate and share if you are able to, your help is greatly appreciated!

There are so many words that can describe Shane! He is a husband, a dad to two young boys, a son, a friend, a teacher, a coach, and a volunteer, and he fills so many other roles. This is a man who gives so much of his time to those around him and is now fighting the battle of his life.

In January of this year, Shane received news of having a tumor in his stomach and another mass on his pancreas. He was told he would need surgery to remove the tumor along with a portion of his stomach. After undergoing endoscopic exams and biopsies, Shane was scheduled for surgery on March 15th.

Shane's surgery date came and the initial surgery went well. Within a few days, complications including pulmonary embolisms, an elevated heart rate, and troubles with regulating oxygen levels set in. The night of March 20th, Shane’s wife, Yvette, received a phone call from the hospital that he was being moved back to the intensive care unit and that he needed to be intubated. Shane’s vital signs declined, and he up being put on a ventilator, and heavily sedated. The ICU staff worked for the next 12 hours to stabilize Shane’s vital signs. Exploratory surgery was done in the ICU, and bile and other fluids were found to be leaking into his abdomen and shock was setting in. Drains were put in to begin drawing out excess fluids, and Shane’s vitals finally stabilized for the time being.

Shane has had 4 surgeries in addition to his initial (planned) surgery to date.

Shane's recovery will be long, he will miss at least the rest of this school year from work and the family is unsure of what additional expenses they may incur to take care of his needs after he is released from the hospital. At a minimum Yvette understands that he will need a recliner that is comfortable enough to sleep in and will likely require medical additional medical equipment throughout the house.

Friends of the Shockey family are starting this ‘Go Fund Me’ as a way to assist the family with unexpected expenses and to help cover any loss of income as a result of not being able to work in the event that the recovery period exceeds the available sick time.

Thank you in advance for all of your love and support through this difficult time.
