Help Finn Fight FIP
Donation protected
Hi, our names are Lauren and Logan and we are cat parents to the sweetest boy in the whole world, Finn.
Finn is a special cat who many people have loved, unfortunately one of his previous caretakers found out that he tested positive for FeLV, a condition that weakens his immune system and makes it so he cannot be around other healthy cats. Finn had to be separated and kept in a cage so as to not infect the other cats in the house. He was very sad that he couldn’t play with all of the other cats in his home and his caretaker knew he needed a better place to stay.
Logan and I are cat parents to Pumpkin, who is also positive for FeLV, and who has been in need of a buddy since losing her sister as a kitten. We felt like we had the perfect environment for Finn to be able to roam around and have companionship. We embraced him with open arms as the newest member of our family. Pumpkin was so excited to have a new brother and followed him everywhere, always wanting to play and keep him company. Finn brought SO much joy to our little family, this was meant to be.
Unfortunately, a week after bringing him home, I noticed Finn wasn’t breathing too well. I took him to the vet, where we found out that he had a fever along with fluid accumulating in his chest. An analysis of the fluid came back suspicious for FIP, an extremely fatal and fast-acting viral infection. The doctors and us were shocked. This sweet boy was bright, energetic, and alert. No one would ever have been able to guess by looking at him that he was dying. But he was. He still is.
The vet said that it is a grave prognosis and that the odds are stacked against him, but that it is possible to fight it with experimental medication. The medication shows tremendous promise and has high rates of success.
However, treatment is long and extremely expensive. Logan and I have limited financial resources to get him the help that he needs and Finn does not have a lot of time. Asking for help through a GoFundMe is something no pet owner ever wants to do, but we owe it to this innocent boy to put aside our pride. He’s lived in so many places, with it always falling through for one reason or another, and we promised that when we took him in that this was going to be his forever home. No more moving. No more not-belonging. He was home.
Hearing that we’re going to lose him, so soon after bringing him home, is completely devastating and has thrown us into chaos. Nonetheless, we promised to take him in and to be his people in this world. This diagnosis doesn’t change that. We’re going to fight for him, no matter how hard it is, because everyone deserves a family that will look out for them. Finn deserves it. He deserves a chance.
All donations will go towards Finn’s medical expenses. Medication is estimated to cost between $3k-$5k depending on how well he responds, in addition to monthly blood tests to track progress. Anything helps, even if it’s just words of encouragement. Thank you ❤️
