On Monday evening, November 23rd, Makenzie was suffering from a headache at her home in Broward County, Florida. The headache worsened in intensity, and lasted into the next day, when her speech became garbled. Sometimes, she could form the words she intended to use, but at other times, she could not. It was an alarming turn, and she was taken to the ER in Broward County Florida.
The doctors immediately did a ct scan. The scan revealed a bleed in her brain. She was then transferred by the paramedics to Broward North hospital. She was admitted to the NMICU (neuro medical intensive care unit). Her brain continued to bleed and swell and almost doubled in size in 6 hours .
Makenzie is only 25 and she'd had a hemmoragic stroke.
Doctors did an MRI Thursday 11/26 and it showed blood on both sides of her brain. She had an angioplasty done 11/27 and that ruled out an aneurysm or a blood clot being the cause of her hemmoragic stroke. But the cause is so unknown.
Yesterday, Saturday 11/28 she developed a warm hot spot on her left arm that they are afraid is a blood clot, a dvt.
The doctors said there is nothing they can do for it because she cant be on blood thinners because of her brain bleed.
They are going to be placing an ivc filter in in the next few days that will prevent further clots coming up from her legs .
She had a CT done today 11/29 because although her speech is getting better her pain behind her left eye is getting worse. She described it as a fist trying to punch through her eye socket from the inside.
They will be doing another angioplasty in the next few days and also another MRI with contrast this time in the next few weeks. Everything is day to day hour to hour .
To complicate everything, Makenzie's mother, Jennifer, lives in Ohio. She has had to leave her home, her job and put her life on hold while she is with Makenzie in the hospital in Florida.
Makenzie is not expected to be able to leave the hospital for months.
Jennifer's resources are limited, and we are trying to rally around her, as her friends and neighbors, to help her be able to stay with her daughter while she recovers from her stroke.
She needs to be able to eat, sleep and and take care of herself while she has very little income coming in.
We're asking you to help us help Jennifer to be able to stay with her daughter when he daughter needs her the most.
