Support for the Terry Family

My uncle Russell is 48 years old. He has had covid for nearly 70 days and has been hospitalized for about 60 days now. If only people knew how much covid truly effects your whole body. He was put on a ventilator and put into a medically induced coma about 45 days ago. The doctors recommended putting him on ECMO. They had waited for a machine to open up and one did. He is still on ECMO and a ventilator and the doctors had to do a tracheostomy. His platelet levels have been continuously low and the doctors keep giving him platelets. He had excess fluid in his body which needed to be taken out which resulted to about 25 L and it has been ongoing since. It is now recently affecting his kidney and liver levels. He had a blood infection that started early on which created sepsis in his leg. This resulted in a removal of dead skin and tissue on his leg. The doctors thought skin grafts down the road would be the next step once he is off of ECMO. Sadly, they may have to amputate his leg above the knee. If they do this, the doctors are hoping this will resolve the infection that is preventing his recovery and lowering his levels if they do have to amputate. 

 

The doctors have taken him out of the coma, but he is on so many pain meds that he is still sedated. He has been able to open his eyes and respond with small facial movements (sticking his tongue out, shrug his shoulders, lifting his eyebrows, blinking). He is not able to squeeze a hand yet due to the muscle atrophy. His heart rate and blood pressure have been high continuously. When he did wake up, he was able to mouth "I Love You" to my aunt.

 

I started this GoFundMe for my Uncle Russell and my Aunt Mickey. At this point, we cannot even imagine where the medical bills are or how much farther they are going to go. They have 5 wonderful children between 4 and 22, and 2 grandchildren. My aunt is trying to work at home or from the hospital while also trying to support Russell and the kids. My grandparents and other uncle have stepped in to help take care of the kids when they can which has been a massive help. We would like to try to help support them for medical and home bills in any way possible. If you are able to donate anything, it would be very much appreciated.
