Obi is our 3 year-old cat, and we’ve had him since he was a tiny kitten. He has always been a homebody and never wandered far — usually just sunbathing on car roofs or playing with bugs in the nearby gardens.
Around 18 months ago he became a bit more adventurous, so we let him explore safely while keeping a close eye. He has never gone far and always came home, especially when treats were involved.
One afternoon, Obi didn’t come home. This was completely unlike him. We searched for him for weeks — calling his name every night, posting on missing pet registers, contacting vets, schools, neighbours, and putting up posters. He was microchipped and listed as missing, but there were no sightings. When the hot summer passed and winter came, we feared the worst.
Then one day, after many months, I checked the back garden — and to our shock, Obi appeared. He was thin, frightened, and had serious injuries to his chest and leg.
We rushed him to the vet immediately.
Since then, we’ve been going back and forth 2–3 times a week for treatment, wound cleaning, medication, and all the protective supplies at home. Despite all the care, antibiotics, and dressing changes, the vets have told us that Obi now needs extensive skin graft surgery.
His injuries were not caused by us but by someone who decided to take him, and we suspect they neglected him. We are devastated that his suffering is due to someone else’s actions.
So far we have been able to cover his weekly vet bills, medications, cleaning supplies, and follow-ups, but the surgery alone is estimated at £2,500 — and we simply cannot raise that amount at such short notice.
Surrendering him to the RSPCA or another charity would likely result in him being taken away from us, and after everything he’s been through we want him home, safe, and loved.
Obi needs this surgery to heal and live a normal life again. We are trying every route we can and praying for a miracle.
If you are able to help — whether by donating or just sharing this page — we would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to read Obi’s story. ❤️
