Support for the Trudy Hancock Family

Trudy (Henkels) Hancock touched the lives of thousands of athletes, coaches, and family members in the Iowa swimming community. She was a high school state champion and Hall of Fame Swimming inductee for Dubuque Wahlert. Trudy then went on to become a stand out Division 1 athlete, and later, an indispensable and cherished coach for the Dowling Catholic High School Riptide and Greater Des Moines YMCA Marlins swim teams. Coach Trudy loved the pool and gave love, time, and energy to motivate and nurture a new generation of young swimmers. One of her greatest joys was being able to share her passion of competitive swimming with her two sons, Tommy and Joe.
On Friday morning July 17, Coach Trudy suffered a medical heart emergency at home and lost consciousness. She had no known heart conditions. Husband Neil and her boys spent time with Trudy at Mercy while doctors and nurses cared for her. Trudy passed on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. Trudy, always generous, gave to three others the gift of organ donation. A woman in her 70s received her liver, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 50s each received one of her kidneys.
Many have asked how to help support the Hancock family. We have set up this fund to support Tommy and Joe's education through high school and alleviate additional financial burdens.
