This sweet kitty is Nala. She’s a nine-year-old fur baby that’s been a huge emotional support to her human mama, Haley Coffman. For many years, Nala has been waiting at the door to love on her Mama when she comes home from the hospital. or has treatments, and has snuggled her when she’s not feeling well and done all sorts of cat things to make her mom feel better. But now Nala is the one who isn’t doing well.
Over the holidays, Nala needed two emergency vet visits. And finally, a mass in her tummy was found. We’d hoped it was benign or some strange thing Nala ate. But unfortunately, it was terrible news.
Exploratory surgery at Planned Pethood in Denver yesterday discovered a very advanced, untreatable, and fast-growing cancer, and now this poor fur baby has just a brief time to live. She can come home to spend some special moments with her human mom soon, but that time is limited, and Haley won’t let her suffer or linger in pain.
To say that Haley is heartbroken is an understatement. If you’ve ever been touched by an animal, you know that feeling of your guts being ripped out by these kinds of events. When that furry creature who gave you so much love and comfort, now is on the verge of dying, it’s devasting.
In the meantime, as any good Mom does, Haley sacrificed everything she had for the kitty--including her entire month’s paycheck to cover the costs of the two emergency visits, and the surgery costs, plus in-patient care for Nala.
There will be medicine for Nala when she comes home so she’s not in pain. Then, ultimately and sadly cremation costs in the near future.
I’m writing this on behalf of Haley, who is my daughter. The mind-boggling costs are more than I can personally absorb at this time, but I’ll help her as I can this month. The costs are: $2100 for the surgery, and pre-and post-surgery care, plus $1300 for the other two emergency vet visits over the holidays, plus unknown additional costs for days in the pet hospital since the surgery, medication Nala will need for now to keep her comfortable, and then cremation costs, which probably add another $300-$500.
Total is roughly about $4400-$5000, by the time this is all finished.
We know money is tight for everyone. Just sending love and kind words of comfort is enough. But as so many people have asked how to help financially, we put this GoFundMe together. Through this time, your love for Haley and her beloved Nala and your support have meant so much. We love you.
