Hello family and friends,
W I know I'm nit the only one struggling duri g the Covid era, but I am in need of assistance. It's very humbling to ask for help when so many need help. I'm not going to sensationalize my story. I'm sure many of you know how serious Stage 5 kidney Failure is and being on dialysis is a life threatening situation. My ultimate goal is to receive a kidney transplant which seems like a lifetime. Until such time I have to have dialysis treatments 3 times per week, for 5 hours per treatment. For those of you who don't know what dialysis is I'll try to explain it in layman's terms.
First you should know that your kidneys filter all the toxins out of your body through your urine. If this doesn't happen your body would retain poisonous toxins that could kill you in 5 to 7 days.
I my case with kidney failure, I don't urinate and the toxins can not be filtered and my body retains all the excess fluid along with the toxins and the only way to release it is through dialysis treatments. If this excess fluid is not released I will literally suffocate in my own bodily fluids. Another function of the kidneys is they produce a hormone that makes Red blood cells. Now I have hormone injections 3 times per week so my body will make Red blood cells. Why are red blood cells important?
Red blood cells carry the oxygen throughout your body and provides Oxygen to all vital organs including your brain. They control your energy level and regulates your breathing. There is so much I must do on a daily basis just to have a so called normal day. I have food and fluid restrictions.
Imagine only being able to drink 32ounces of fluid per day and if you go over you will not be able to breath. When I first started dialysis I had plenty of anxiety attacks trying to breath. You learn to adhere to the restrictions farley quickly. The other restrictions potassium and phosphorus. Too much of either of these are very dangerous even fatal. No more FRENCH FRIES!!! Phosphorous is in everything on earth! The one good thing is I can eat all the unprocessed meat I want, in fact it is encouraged because my body losses so much protein I have to consume more than usual to keep up normal levels.
I wanted to try to explain to importance of the kidneys because it's a daily struggle that some don't understand.
I'm asking for financial assistance because I'm on a fixed income, which is depleted after rent and Medications and public transportation. I use food banks but still have to pay to get there. My Driver's License is excellent but I don't have a car and insurance would be an issue.
Amy help I receive will be greatly appreciated and I will pay it forward!
God Bless you all!
