I am helping to create this Go Fund Me Page to assist a co worker and friend. Justin is a father/husband of a family of 4 with 2 elementary age children (Jaxon and Avery 10 & 5) in Gulf Gate Elementary. (Mom Amber) As I type this the children are sleeping, the day after Christmas, unaware that tomorrow they will be told that they must leave their home this weekend and that the 4 of them (mom, dad and two kids) will be starting the new year staying in a shelter or anywhere they can go for free because they have been scammed out of their entire savings by an evil Craigs List scammer at Christmas. Last month this low-income, working class family, moved into a rental property in Gulf Gate only to find out the week before Christmas that the person who rented the house to them was not the owner. They had answered a Craigs List ad for the home in a safe place and close to the kids school and father’s work and signed what ended up being a fake lease and gave all of their hard earned money, that took a year to save up to move, to this evil person who preys on the most vulnerable and desperate type of working class people among us. It is assumed that the person was someone who had been working on the home because there had been extensive renovations going on recently with several crews and many workers who had access to the home, keys, knew it was about to be complete and listed and knew the lights and water were on. A case has been opened by the Sarasota Sheriff’s Dept but if the individual is ever caught it could be years before the court system can get their money back to them through the courts in restitution. Meanwhile they have been served notice to vacate the property by the real owner and must be out by this weekend/the end of December. The kids have no idea this is happening as the parents, while extremely stressed out, have tried to keep it all quiet so that the kids could have a some-what normal Christmas. We are seeking assistance with raising money to help them move again once we find a place for them. First, last, security, moving expenses etc. This person who they thought they were renting from took everything they had saved. I am going to get them a storage unit and get their meager belongings in a safe place until we can find a way to get them a place to live. We are also seeking any assistance finding potential rental properties in the Gulf Gate, Clark Road area as the kids are in Gulf Gate Elementary and the father is working for a company in the Clark Rd area and has been there for 5 years and needs to keep the job. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated for this family and the children who have been victimized to start the new year off in a safe place rather than homeless.
