Help David Kick Cancer's Ass

Donation protected
Earlier this year, David’s mother died, and he began to lose weight. His wife, Emily started making special stops at bakeries. She would pick up pastries that she knew he’d like to entice him to eat and regain some of that weight, which everyone ascribed to grief.

Neither of them knew that there was another reason for his sudden weight loss: multiple tumors growing in his body.

A few months ago, David hurt his collarbone while at work. He postponed getting it checked out, in part because he was still preoccupied with grieving his mother and in part because he didn’t think it was that serious of an injury.

But then a mass formed on the injured collarbone, and Emily and David went to the doctor to check it out. That was Thursday, October 6th. Nine days ago.

After a tense waiting period, David got the news that no one wants to hear: you have cancer. Specifically, stage four osteosarcoma.

So what does that mean? David has bone cancer, spreading to other areas of his body. As I write this, David is in surgery to remove a mass that was discovered on his brain.

Two weeks ago, Emily’s main concern for her husband was coaxing him into eating a few too many sweets to put on some weight again. Two weeks ago, they were like any other couple: living their life, making long-term plans, and spending time with their two precious cats, Ogre and Mazanga.

Today, Emily and David are flung into a new world of medical terms, statistics, surgeries, and treatments. Today, Emily and David are just trying to get through the next few hours, trusting strangers to guide them through this new, stressful, scary, and overwhelming path.

Anyone who has experienced a health crisis knows that they’re debilitating financially–even if you are prepared, even if you have health insurance or a medical emergency fund.

I’m starting this Go Fund Me for Emily and David in the hope that it will make a dent in their medical bills, and allow the two of them to focus on the only thing that matters right now: getting David healthy again. All funds will go directly to Emily and David.

If you cannot give financially right now, that’s okay. Please consider sharing this Go Fund Me on social media or emailing it to anyone you know who might be interested in helping.

For those of you who can spare even $1, please know that Emily and David and their two cats are so grateful. He really is the best cat dad in the galaxy (and an amazing human being).
