Bringing Lauren Back
Donation protected
Lauren Moeller (pictured here, in the middle) was a straight-A student, a member of the cheer-team, and was preparing to go to college with a scholarship. She was a loving, fun, witty girl with a bright future ahead of her. That all changed on the night of March 8, 2018, when an undetected malformation of the arteries in her brain ruptured, causing a severe brain bleed and a stroke. These types of malformations and bleeds occur in less than 1% of the world population, and there was never any reason to suspect that Lauren would have one. Miraculously, Lauren survived the rupture. Her life was saved by the careful hands of an amazing surgeon as well as by the prayers of her family and friends on the worst night of all of their lives. We are so glad that she is alive, but there is a long road ahead of her.
The trauma Lauren’s brain underwent caused her to lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, write, read and remember things on her own. While the initial predictions were dire, Lauren has continued to show a fighting spirit and is improving, having learned to walk, eat, and begin to talk in initial rehab sessions. However, in order for Lauren to have a chance at a full recovery, she requires more extensive and rigorous rehab. Her doctors are now predicting that hundreds of hours of rehab are still required for her to have a chance to get her back to her normal self.
It is with this short background that we plead for your help. Aside from her life-saving surgery, Lauren’s rehab will be costly. Insurance covers less than three months of rehab. The doctors predict Lauren will need many, many months of intensive rehabilitation sessions. Without insurance, the traumatic brain injury program Lauren will be entering will cost between $800 and $1000 per day. We simply cannot let cost determine the level of healing available to Lauren.
We want Lauren back, and we are confident she will continue to fight and recover with the best rehab she can get. The cost of this tragedy is larger than any one family can manage alone. Any donation--even $10--would be a huge blessing for not only Lauren, but also her family. If we reach our goal of $100,000 it will pay for 5 months of Lauren’s ongoing rehabilitation program.
Through this all, our family has grown closer and stronger, and we have learned that life can change dramatically in an instant. We hope, pray, and move forward with faith that this particular change will not be permanent. Please help us provide the best opportunity to give our amazing daughter, sister, and friend her life back.
