Support Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Final Care Costs

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro (beloved iconic author and creator of the Saint-Germain Vampire Cycle, plus many other books) has passed away after a long illness.

Her estate needs to raise $46,000 to pay for care expenses that were not covered by insurance.

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's health began to decline several years ago and took a serious turn for the worse soon after she appeared as Writer Guest of Honor at the 2023 DragonCon in Atlanta, GA. Quinn (as she was known to her friends) ultimately became bedridden, and after her kidneys failed, she had to move from her house to a full-time senior care facility. There she was surrounded by books and media and was regularly visited by friends while she endured the strain of being taken to dialysis and back three times a week by ambulance.

Over time, her condition continued to deteriorate. In early August, she became comatose and was hospitalized so she could be treated for both pneumonia and spinal meningitis. After two weeks of antibiotics and antivirals, she began to show some signs of progress... then on August 24th, her heart stopped. The doctors managed to get it started again, but despite their best efforts, Quinn's brain was without oxygen for too long. She suffered major brain damage, and an MRI scan confirmed that she was never going to wake up.

Quinn's medical directive was clear that she did not want to exist in a persistent vegetative state. Accordingly, she was taken off mechanical life support and given drugs to prevent any discomfort as her body gradually shut down and let go. Through this vigil, she was surrounded by close friends and loved ones.

Now that Quinn is gone, her estate is facing $46,000 in already-incurred care expenses that are not covered by her personal and state medical insurance. Most of this figure is accumulated monthly fees for the senior care facility she was staying in, which ran $8,000 a month. For the last two years, Quinn's closest friends and some caring donors have covered more than $150,000 in these non-insured costs, but now help is needed to retire the rest.

The Estate hopes that with help from Quinn's fans and general crowdfunding, this can be accomplished. All donations will go into a lawyer-created and bank-approved Special Needs Trust account. If the full $46,000 is raised, this GoFundMe will be immediately closed. It is solely and exclusively devoted to paying expenses that are still owed for Quinn's critical care.

Thank you for your attention, for your help if you give, and (if you are one of Quinn's readers) for your enthusiasm for her work over the years. She lived to tell stories, and her readers truly mattered to her.
