E. Kazo College Uganda to purchase computers
Donation protected
Emmanuel Kazo Primary and Secondary school operate in an extreme urban poverty environment in Kampala, Uganda. The surrounding community lacks basic skills & techniques as a result of the poor access to education. Many children grow up disillusioned, witnessing and often modeling the behaviours of their surroundings.
However, the school acts as a respite from such conditions. Through fundraising, we can provide the children with access to resources such as computers, online classes on Financial and Computer Technology literacy courses, and financing micro-loans for recent high school graduates.
Currently, the school has a small computer room with two outdated computers for five hundred learners. Students struggle to share them. Many learners are left out, whereas others do not get enough access. We want to raise the number to fifty (50) computers for better service provision. Each new Dell computer costs USD500 (Ugx sh.1,850,000). We launched a Fundraising Campaign led by Giorgio Silva (Italy), who introduced financial and technological literacy webinars taught by teachers worldwide in January 2022. "Strive for future " platform offers high-level computer language courses such as Python Coding and other computer languages.
We are planning to purchase and install 50 Computers at a total cost of $25,000
Twenty-five thousand US Dollars via a GoFundMe Page. Another $25,000 will fund the Micro-loan projects for the Seniors. It is important for the students to know that there is a real path forward.
Strive for the future is a Financial, Technological Literacy, Educational and MicroLoan financing platform that operates via webinars launched by Giorgio Silva from Italy with help from his friend Jidaya in Uganda. Giorgio and Jidaya were friends for more than 10 years and 2021 during the Covid crisis Giorgio launched the program to help Jidaya's school (Emmanuel Kazo College) to provide their students with resources to excel in the future.
During the 2022 academic year, webinars via zoom were held by teachers, professionals and college students from the US, UK, Spain and Italy, which shed light on the grave problem we have on our hands.
In this era, we continue to keep moving more and more onto digital platforms. Due to this, millions of new opportunities to make business online or with technology have opened up. Unfortunately, most of Africa has not been able to access these new opportunities since they do not have any access to technology. By funding Emmanuel Kazo College with 50 new computers, we can give students an insight into coding and the financial world, where we hope they can get exposed and develop digital proficiency.
The new computers will be used to teach the students Python Coding, offered and taught by Giorgio’s friend Zain Rafiq from London.
The fall semester curriculum in 2022 will also include the micro-loans competition that requires them to create PowerPoint presentations to apply for the loans, possibly enabling them to further their education and professional careers.
Bwaise is a large and bustling suburb along the Kampala – Gulu highway. Bwaise is densely populated and has a reputation for harboring thugs, thieves, drug addicts, etc. Prostitution also runs rampant as part of daily life in this region – specifically in Kimombasa.
The link below will take you to a short video that shows what Kampala's slums look like.
The youth engage in these destructive activities due to a lack of education (high illiteracy rates) and unemployment.
One trimester of education costs $92 (day school) and $166 (boarding school). This affordable secondary education provides students with a foundation to learn these entrepreneurial skills. The access to education from Emmanuel College has the capacity and ability to transform and improve the human condition in Bwaise for generations to come.
Funds go directly to Emmanuel Kazu college
*Update*: The first part of the money has been withdrawn, and the college has already purchased 20 computers. The students are waiting for the microloans and the funds for 15 more computers. Thank you to everyone who has donated!
