Hi everyone. Please do me the kindness of reading my story. It is long because it is complicated. I am fundraising for myself and my roommate because we are  homeless. We had a nice apartment and the rent went up and my roommate’s salary went down because her full time job discontinued incentives and overtime which had raised her income significantly. I am 68 years old and retired due to disability. My only income is a very small Social Security check. It is so low that I am on SNAP for groceries  and a Medicare Buy-In from Massachusetts which pays the Medicare premium. I don’t pay income tax because the IRS gave me Non-Filer status due to low income. Ownership of our apartment complex changed hands and raised the rent further so we got further behind. Our lease ran out and we were unable to sign a new as we were behind so we lost Affordable Housing status which raised the rent once again. Then we were evicted and do not have the money to pay the initial costs required to get another, less expensive, apartment. Massachusetts housing costs are among the highest in the nation.We need to pay apartment application processing fees, first and last month rent, security deposit, and pet deposit ( doctor certified emotional support device animals necessary for my  health) before we can get any apartment. Once we have an apartment again we can keep up with the rent since we will have a cheaper apartment with no back rent to pay and we can sign up for the Affordable Housing program again!. We also need help getting basic furniture as we had to leave all of ours behind when we were evicted as we couldn’t afford to move it. My roommate’s brother has helped us stay at a motel but he can’t give anymore due to his own finances. We have tried to get help from all of the available community resources in the area but none of them can help us. We have nowhere to go and are about to be forced to be living on the street and are desperate. Neither of us has ever been in this situation before nor expected to ever be. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Please help us.
