Hi everyone, my name is Karen. As I sit here and write this, I keep hoping this is all a bad dream that my family will wake up from. I also hope and pray that god gives us the strength to help and support each other through the road that lies ahead.

A couple of weeks ago my sister found out she has breast cancer. She is being told that it is aggressive and the doctors are handling it with urgency. Her first surgery is next week. She will have a full mastectomy performed to ensure the whole tumor and any infected tissue is removed. As of right now we don't know if it's spread. 

For those of you that don't know her, her name is Lourdes. She is literally the hardest working woman I know and I only wish I were half the woman she is. She has 3 kids, 2 adults now and one only 12 years old. She has worked her whole life for her family. She started working when she was 13 to help my mom feed my older brother and sister. She worked when she moved to the states to help my mom feed me and my younger brother. She struggled on her own and raised 2 awesome, unique human beings and is still working on raising the youngest. She is our mom's primary caretaker. My sister is seriously an angel. Shes selfless and loving and I couldn't ask for a better sibling and friend. Shes been there when I needed her and even though we clashed at times, it's because of her tough love i'm here today.

This news could not come at a worse time. After working for a company for 17 years, she lost her job through no fault of her own. With it went her insurance benefits. Her entire treatment is being paid for out of pocket. We are being told her surgery will be about $5000-$6000 up front. After surgery, the doctor explained she will have to do up to 40 chemo treatments running between $700-$1000 each. There's just no way for us to raise that kind of money each week.

I ask that you please find it in your heart to help out. Any contribution helps. We will be forever thankful. I know its a tough time with the holidays coming up, and we understand if you are in a tough spot, but please share her story.

Hola a todos, mi nombre es Karen. Mientras me siento aquí y escribo esto, sigo esperando que todo esto sea un mal sueño del cual mi familia se despierte. También espero y rezo para que Dios nos dé la fuerza para ayudarnos y apoyarnos a través de este camino.

Hace un par de semanas mi hermana descubrió que tenía cáncer en los senos. Se le dice que es agresivo y los doctores lo están manejando con urgencia. Su primera cirugía es la próxima semana. Se le realizará una mastectomía completa para asegurar que el tumor completo y cualquier tejido infectado se le remueva. En este momento no sabemos si el cancer se ha extendido. 

Para aquellos de ustedes que no conocen a mi hermana, ella se llama Lourdes. Es literalmente la mujer más trabajadora que conozco y sólo puedo desear algun dia ser la mitad de la mujer que ella es. Ella tiene 3 hijos, 2 adultos ahora y uno solo de solo 12 anos. Ha trabajado toda su vida por su familia. Ella empezó a trabajar cuando tenía 13 años para ayudar a mi mamá a alimentar a mi hermano mayor y a mi hermana. Ella trabajaba cuando se mudó a los Estados Unidos para ayudar a mi mamá. Luchó sola y crió a dos seres humanos impresionantes, únicos, y sigue trabajando en la crianza de el mas pequeno. Ella es la cuidadora principal de nuestra madre. Mi hermana es en serio un ángel. Ella es amorosa y no podía pedir una mejor hermana y amiga. Ha estado allí cuando la necesité y aunque nos enfrentamos a veces, es por su duro amor que estoy aquí hoy.

Esta noticia no pudo venir en peor momento. Después de trabajar para una compañía por 17 años, ella perdió su trabajo sin culpa propia. Con ella se fueron sus beneficios de seguro. Su tratamiento completo está siendo pagado por si misma. Se nos ha dicho que su cirugía costara entre $5000-$ 6000 por adelantado. Después de la cirugía, el médico explicó que tendrá que hacer hasta 40 tratamientos de chemo que costaran entre $700-$ 1000 cada uno. Es casi imposible juntar esa cantidad de dinero cada semana ella sola.

Les pido que por favor lo encuentren en su corazón para ayudar. Cualquier contribución ayudaria pagar este costoso tratamiento. Estaremos agradecidos por siempre. Entendemos si usted está en un lugar difícil, pero por favor comparta su historia.
