Howdy, my name is Bedlam Rigney (it/its) and I’m a part-time wheelchair user diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Beyond being disabled, I am also a musician who relies on said wheelchair to get me to gigs. I say I am a part-time user as I do not use my chair inside my house, but anywhere and everywhere in public requires a mobility aid for myself. I am able to walk short distances (around 500m at a time) using my walker, however; my closest bus stop to my house is 1.2km away. My wheelchair is therefore required to get anywhere substantial.

The guy who services and repairs my wheelchair has quoted a full fix, including battery replacements, at $1500. I was trying to put this off, however I was recently caught out in the city and was stranded for several hours because the batteries are simply not holding charge anymore.

I have been relying a lot on the kindness of strangers recently but next year, with any luck, will be a better one as long as I have the mobility to get around.
