New Laser for Chris Barnard Sailing

Family, Friends, Fans, and Supporters of Chris Barnard Sailing,

I am honored to have recently qualified for the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider after finishing 12th at the ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami. This is a significant step in my Olympic campaign and for the 2014 season.

My mission is to represent the United States in the International Laser Standard class at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and to win a gold medal. I will look to become the fittest athlete on the water, the keenest tactician and strategist, and a strong role model for the community that displays good sportsmanship for future generations. I will represent myself and my family, friends, yacht clubs, schools, and my country, to the highest standards of professionalism and sportsmanship. The success of the campaign will be judged by the results at the World Championships and Olympic Games as well as how well I represent and give back to my community.

After a successful college sailing career where I led the Georgetown University Hoyas to a National Championship, earning three All-American awards, and being honored as the College Sailor of the Year in 2012, I shifted my focus to Olympic Sailing. You can follow my progress at my website

By qualifying for the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider, my opportunities for training and racing around the world have grown substantially. However, these opportunities come with a financial cost. In order to accomplish my high goals, I will need strong support from my community.

I am asking for a small financial contribution to my Olympic campaign that will go towards the purchase of a new Laser for competition in Europe. The boat will be used for the ISAF Sailing World Cup events in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Hyeres, France this spring. Additionally, it will be raced at the 2014 World Championships in Santander, Spain this September. A new boat costs $7000, new sails $1800, and $1200 in rigging and equipment, a total of $10,000.

In order to peak for the World Championships in September, it is essential that I race against the best in the world, and have the best equipment to do it. I am continuing to work hard this winter, both on the water and in the gym. With limited free time, I need your support to make this financially possible.

Thank you so much for your generous support. Any amount is greatly appreciated, even $20 goes a long way and makes you part of the team!
