Fourteen seconds . . . throughout the world, someone is diagnosed with breast cancer every 14 seconds. Last month our sister Audrey became one of those people and since that day our family is forever changed.

Audrey is going to need multiple surgeries, the first being a Bilateral Mastectomy with immediate FLAP reconstruction which is a 10 to 12 hour operation. She also recently found out that she is going to need many months of Chemotherapy and full time care during her recovery. 

Unfortunately, even with medical insurance CANCER IS EXPENSIVE. Over 85% of cancer patients are so ill that they leave the workforce during their initial treatment. The average cost of cancer treatment in 2020 was $150,000 and that number increases each year.

Audrey is a NICU Physician Assistant and will not be able to work for an undetermined amount of time due to the extensiveness of her illness and the important time necessary for her to recover. The cost of her surgeries, radiology scans, medication, and recovery are already mounting up, and although she has short term disability insurance, she will be losing the majority of her income which will greatly impact her family.

Audrey is also a mother of four beautiful school aged children, with her youngest two being disabled and requiring medical care of their own. Audrey's amazing husband Chris will continue to work while being Audrey’s full-time caregiver, however, they are going to need additional support. This will be a challenging time for her husband and children also.

Although Chris and Audrey’s families are committed to helping in every way possible, this is still a massive undertaking and all of their family lives out of state.
