As many of you know, my best friend of 30 years Diane’s husband Ernie Sergejenko has been battling non alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and also a rare liver cancer, poorly differentiated carcinoma, since March. He needs a liver transplant (more on that another time) but is required to go through a full year of chemotherapy and immunotherapy before that process can even begin.
Thankfully Ernie has medical and short term and long term disability benefits through his employer. Unfortunately right now his short term disability claim has ended and no further income is coming in. The application and approval process for long term disability will take nearly 3 months and during this time they will be receiving no income. Together with medical bills and traveling expenses to and from medical providers, this is creating a terrible hardship.
Ernie and Diane have been to specialists from the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland OH, the Transplant program at University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital, and he is currently being treated with chemotherapy and immunotherapy at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre PA.
Ernie has been in and out of the hospital several times with complications from the liver diseases and especially the chemotherapy. He’s already had two surgeries to remove very large kidney stones and another one is scheduled for 9/15. Most recently, he was hospitalized in the critical care unit with a serious kidney infection and septic shock.
Ernie continues his fight every day with his family and friends by his side. He’s very sick, but somehow maintains a good attitude and great spirit. Ernies faith in God has never been more strong and he is positive he can beat this!
I would like to ask you to help me to help Ernie and Diane get through this phase of having no income for nearly 3 months due to pending long term disability claim. If you cannot donate, please share this for others to see.
Thank you family and friends for your support!
