Hope for Aiden

Our little family received unfortunate life-changing news last Wednesday, January 8th 2025, during a doctor’s visit. My 11-year-old grandson Aiden was diagnosed with brain cancer. He endured 6 hours of brain surgery yesterday to remove the tumor. This was less than 48 hours after being diagnosed. He is currently in a pediatric intensive care unit. He has lost movement to the right side of his face. He is feeling sad and is scared that he will not get better. His mother is there with him staying at the hospital so he is not alone. We are waiting for the pathology report to determine what treatment is appropriate. That will depend on if the tumor is benign or malignant. We have no idea how long he will be hospitalized. He is recovering from the brain surgery but will need months of rehabilitation to regain movement on his right side and learn to walk again. I am starting this fundraiser to help his mother with living expenses and things for Aiden because she is not going to be able to work while she is tending to Aiden in the hospital. I’m reaching out to friends, family and the community for support during this very difficult time. Your support is very much appreciated.
UPDATE 1/17: We’re very happy to say that this is a benign tumor. Thank goodness Aiden will only need local rehabilitation and treatment to get him back on his feet. He is making progress daily. Today he was moved from the PICU to the rehab floor. He has lost hearing in his right ear. He doesn’t have good movement on his right side of his face. He is going to work with speech, physical and occupational therapies. His gait is very shakey but he walked to the bathroom today. Aiden ate well for the first time in a week today. His diet was upgraded from puréed to mechanical soft.
We are very grateful for the support for his mother. She continues to be by his side at the hospital and will continue to do so throughout his recovery and rehabilitation.
