Andy is a Navy veteran and career firefighter. He has been fighting Stage 4 colon cancer for over 4 years.
Andy's fire department has an insurance plan with an $11,800 deductible. Our family has had to raise these funds each year when his deductible resets. Last year, the Florida legislature passed the Firefighter Cancer Bill. This bill requires the fire department to pay expenses not covered by insurance for service-connected cancers. It was determined that colon cancer is a cancer connected to his work as a firefighter leading us to believe we would not need to worry this year. Unfortunately, this bill uses the term "reimburse" meaning we pay these expenses in full before the fire department. This has sent us back to square one. We are now, once again, forced to turn to others for assistance with covering this extremely high deductible.
Any help you are able to offer will be greatly appreciated. We must raise this money or we will be forced to choose between having a roof over our heads or continuing his current cancer treatments.
