In memory of Isamaeli Mata’afa

Hi, my name is Mitaina Mata'afa; Isamaeli Mata'afa is my brother, and his life was taken from our family and the many souls he impacted. He was a victim of a shooting in Berkeley on Oct 8, 2022.

My brother was a significant figure in our Samoan culture in the Bay Area and a focal point in our family. He was the primary breadwinner for our parents. This loss is going to deeply affect our family for years.

He was pursuing a Master of Divinity at Pacific School of Religion to serve God, our community, and the greater Bay Area, a bright light to many. He has overcame so many obstacles from when we moved to the United States as a teenager. This drove his passion to help all young adults and teenagers in our community to have a smoother path.

He takes pride in our large family and taking care of our parents. He was a major pillar in the community for change and knowledge of rights.

He will be deeply missed by our Samoan congregation in the Bay Area and Southern California.
