Hannah Grace came into the world on December 12th, 2018 via c-section due to mama having preeclampsia at 37 weeks. Within her first 24 hours of life doctors discovered that she has pulmonary hypertension which needed to be treated by the specialists at Lutheran General NICU in Park Ridge, IL. Upon arrival to Lutheran, she was sedated, put on a ventilator and administered nitric oxide as well as receive a central line through her umbilical cord. Mom (Kerry) was able to be discharged early the next day from Condell in order to be with Hannah. That day, they moved forward with an ultrasound of the heart to find that she has some holes that need to close up. She also had an EEG taken of her brain which showed some seizure activity. It is our hope that the heart and seizure issues will resolve once the pulmonary hypertension is cleared. Meanwhile, she has had 3 platelet transfusions because they think that there is an infection somewhere still unknown causing her platelet count to drop. Doctors want to do a spinal tap tomorrow (12/17) to see if they can discover the source. As of day three of life, the nurses were able to insert a picc line through her leg which enabled Hannah to start IV nutrition and lipids (fat). They started her on steroids which has helped keep her blood pressure up so in turn they were able to turn down the rate of her dopamine drip. Doctors and nurses are very hopeful that she will recover and be able to come home, but it's going to take time for her little body to heal. We covet your prayers and will do our best to keep everyone updated on her progress. We will also update the site with ways you can support us as tangible needs arise. THANK YOU for all your love and care!
