April 29th Update: Steve’s surgery cost drastically increased due to what was needed (gastronomy and pyloric canal correction) but he is officially out of surgery as of 7pm PT. He is staying at the hospital overnight but will get to come home on Monday. Thank you all for helping us save my best friend.
Hi everyone, my name is Sydney and this is my Sphynx Cat, Steve. Steve and I found each other in the March 2020 when the world shut down and he immediately became my best friend. We have spent nearly every day together for the last 3 years as an inseparable pair. He is my whole entire world.
Two and a half weeks ago my world came to a halt. I came home from being out of town for a long weekend to find Steve completely emaciated - he was skin and bones. A few minutes later, Steve passed out and went completely unconscious. I rushed him to the emergency vet and told them to run every test and treatment possible to save my best friend.
After 24 hours of tests/diagnostics/treatments the vets concluded Steve was experiencing extreme emaciation due to starvation and lack of food/hydration. They couldn’t trace any food in his system and his extreme dehydration caused severe internal track bleeding which caused a spike in his kidney/liver values. The emergency vet concluded that the person who was responsible for watching Steve while I was out of town neglected to provide them with any food and water for 4 days. My poor baby (who was already small and only weighed 8lbs to start) lost over half his body weight, starved, suffered severe internal bleeding, and almost died that night due to another persons negligence.
The vets did everything in their power to help him, but that came at extreme cost which we didn’t care about, we just paid. He came home and spent everyday chowing down and enjoying his new high calorie diet. Flash forward two weeks to April 27th where I once again found Steve almost unconscious due to excessive vomiting (he was vomiting every 10 minutes). Off we go to the vet again to this time find out the internal bleeding hasn’t stopped. His kidney and liver values seemed to never improve.
Which brings us to today and this GoFundMe. I’m currently thousands and thousands of dollars in Care Credit debt from his first visit and now I was just hit with another massive expense - but alas, my Care Credit is maxed out. I am seeking donations to help pay for the additional veterinary support today and the upcoming medications/prescription diet that Steve will need to maintain his health.
If you find it in your heart to donate, I am more than happy to provide receipts and veterinary documentation to show where your money is going. I would do absolutely anything to save this little man, but I am out of resources and am now asking for your help. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. If you have any further questions about Steve and his diagnosis/treatment, please reach out and I’m happy to provide further information.
