Heart Surgery For Colten

Donation protected
Colten was born on April 10, 2018. Prior to being born, his parents were informed that he had a genetic defect referred to as "22q Deletion syndrome" otherwise called DiGeorge syndrome. When this was discovered, it was also found out that he has some heart defects that typically were coupled with 22q. The severity was not known at that time because the cardiologist needed him to be born to find out the exact needs. It was initially told to the parents that they should plan on being at Children's hospital of Birmingham for 6 weeks following the birth so that heart surgery could be performed on the newborn. After birth however, they received the good/bad news that: a. He didn't need immediate surgery but b. He needed three procedures The 3 conditions he has are: MAPCAs, Pulmonary Artesia and Tetralogy of Fallot. With this said, we of course started doing research on to what our next steps would be. It was told to us that there was ONE surgeon in the country who was able to do all three of these procedures at one time and his name is Dr. Frank Hanley at Lucile Packard hospital in Palo Alto, CA. After Dr. Hanley reviewed the chart for Colten, the decision was made that he would do the surgery. This of course was amazing news that was received around August/September and that the surgery would be in January. So of course travel arrangements started being made as the family would have to come up with travel, room and board, etc. On December 12, the hospital called to say that the insurance had refused the cost of the surgery. The family has been given time by Lucile Packard to make a decision before they cancel the procedure, but not much. This campaign will likely come nowhere near the overall cost of the surgery, travel expenses, room and board, etc. However every little bit helps if the family is able to get the insurance to agree on a percentage of the cost. Josh, Coltens father is the sole breadwinner in the home and will be unable to work while in California. As you can imagine, obligations will not stop with him. We can't thank you enough for just taking the time to read this. If you can't donate, that's fine. Say a prayer and hit the share button. Share with your church, job, friends, family, etc.
