Dear friends & fellow community members,
We are reaching out in hopes that through the generosity & kindness of others, we can help a local young lady get on her feet. Our young friend has certainly had the roughest of starts to life & has continued to encounter much loss & sadness throughout her short life.
Beginning at age 4, her father killed her mother & young brother as well as cutting her throat. Miraculously, she was able to grab her baby sister & run away. After spending the night alone in the woods, she was finally found the next day. Fast forward through many years of bouncing between family members, she became pregnant at age 16. Tragically, the baby’s father was killed in a car accident while she was pregnant. She was also severely injured & had rods put in her leg. A few years later, after finally getting on her feet & with a new small family, she became pregnant again. Horrifically, that father was shot & killed a couple of months after the baby was born.
She has been surviving & doing her best raising 2 children while living with a family member. However, things became untenable in the living situation recently & she found herself living in the car (which then stopped working). We have managed to get the car fixed, but it did cost $1200.
Our goal has been to get her permanently housed in a place of her own with her kids & to get her car fixed. We are aware that there are government-assisted places & programs for housing, but these all take time to come to fruition. We also desperately want to keep her & the children here in our parish where they will have a chance at a different life by going through our amazing school system & being surrounded by people who will care about them.
We believe that with secure housing, she can begin to focus on not just surviving from day to day (hour to hour) but can begin to focus on her children & rebuilding her life. The rent is $900 a month & does not include electricity.
Also, please send up all of the prayers & good thoughts for this young woman & her children; she can certainly use them.
