For those of you who know my sister, Sarah, you know she doesn’t go anywhere without her pup and trusty sidekick, Wilbur. Unfortunately, our sweet Wilbur is in need of surgery.
Wilbur has Medial Patella Luxation. In the simplest terms, this condition is when the patella, or “knee cap”, slips in and out of its natural position. Normally, the patella sits in a groove in the femur and does not move side to side. In a severe and unusual case such as Wilbur’s especially for his age (4), it requires an orthopedic surgeon to reconstruct the knee so the groove fits in place and stays put.
This procedure requires carving out the bone and a 4-6 month recovery. He will need to be strictly crated with no activity aside from short backyard walks to use the restroom. No jumping on furniture or playing with his best friend, Goose, for the entire summer. With a 95% success rate, Wilbur will have no physical limitations post recovery and the ability to live his best, healthy life.
In addition to Sarah being in school full-time, she is working full-time as well and will have to take time off work to supervise Wilbur’s first 2 weeks post op.
The goal of 5K is for everything. It will cover surgery, recovery, etc.
While $5,000 seems like a lofty goal, every single donation, no matter the size, gets Wilbur one step closer to living the rest of his life pain-free.
