Michael's Rehabilitation
Donation protected
My name is Christie Mortimer. The Mortimer family is raising money for an intensive rehabilitation program for our brother Michael.
On August 24, 2023, Michael suffered a stroke. By the Grace of God, an amazing response by his family, EMT's and a team of doctors, Michael survived and is beginning his journey to recovery.
The part of of his brain which was affected by the stroke controls communication. He is diagnosed with Aphasia (inability to use spoken language) and Apraxia (a motor disorder). In order for Michael to live his life independently, the doctors must know that he can communicate in an emergency. We pray that he will be able to communicate more fully than that, which is why we are asking for your help.
The Aphasia Center located at Marion Joy in Wheaton, IL is a new facility and offers services which specialize in treatments which will greatly benefit someone like Michael. He is currently enrolled in 3 hours worth of outpatient rehabilitation per week. This is not enough. The doctors have told us that the first 6 months are critical and when the brain can regain the most function. There is an intensive Aphasia program at the center consisting of over 100 hours of speech therapy per month. This program costs $12,000.00. The program is not covered by insurance and has not been made eligible for any federal grants or aid. Michael is motivated to do anything that he can to recover fully. Can you help us get him there? Any support is greatly appreciated. May God Bless you and yours. Thank you!
Love, The Mortimer Family!
