Coast To Coast Challenge

A small group of M-A-M-I-L-S (Middle Aged Men In Lycra) is embarking on a self-funded journey they’ve never encountered before, cycling 240 kilometres across the north of England from coast to coast – in just one day – with 4,500m of road climbing.

 

Who: Dave Walsh, Brian Ahern, Dave O’Reilly, Finbarr Stapleton, Pascal King - representing Hub Cycling Club, Limerick

When: July 9th, 2022

Why: to raise much-needed funds for Down Syndrome, Limerick

 

The route starts from the West coast town of Seascale and goes through the mountainous Western Lake District, through the Yorkshire Dales, across the flat Vale of York and finally, the Northern Valleys of North York Moors, before finishing by the sea in Whitby.

 

But enough about that... Here’s where we need your help!

We have been training for this challenge since Jan'22. To make this even more memorable, we’re looking for your help to raise funds for an amazing charity dear to our hearts, Down Syndrome Limerick (DSL).

A word from DSL…

Down Syndrome Limerick is a local charity based in Castletroy that benefits over 150 people with Down syndrome. We provide counselling and essential services such as Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy. We provide school support to parents and teachers of children in pre-school, primary and secondary education. We also run a successful adult education programme that provides adults with Down syndrome with the skills to gain meaningful employment. In addition to this, our employment programme supports our members to secure employment and assists and provides training for employers. We also run many social activities such as dance classes, drama, swim lessons and cycling lessons. We do not receive government funding and rely on fundraising to help us keep our services going.
