Earlier this year, my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. We’re incredibly grateful that Medicaid is covering the cost of her medical treatment, but the many everyday needs that fall outside of insurance are placing a huge strain on our family.

We’re currently living in my aunt’s basement in New Jersey, all sharing one bed. I’ve stepped away from work to be my mom’s full-time caregiver, and our income is uncertain. My aunt, who is also recovering from shoulder surgery, has been generous, but it’s difficult for all of us to navigate this time without our own space.

One of the hardest things has been not having a stable home environment to support my mom’s healing. We don’t have our own kitchen to prepare meals that meet her needs, and we’re separated from our beloved pets in Santo Domingo—especially our 13-year-old cat, Mufasa, who’s been my mom’s constant companion and source of joy. We’re doing everything we can to reunite them and create a space where she can rest and feel surrounded by love.

We’re seeking support to help cover:

• Temporary housing and rent

• Healthy food

• Transportation to appointments

• Relocation and care for our pets

• Utilities for our unused apartment back home

• Basic living costs while I care for my mom full-time
