As many of you know, my parents recently brought two puppies home, both of whom quickly became bonded members of the family. Through a series of medical emergencies, it came to light that their sweet girl, Scout, is suffering from genetic defects that have required significant medical management and left her life expectancy anywhere from 2 months-2 years unless she recieved emergency surgery.

Unfortunately, due to the complexity and severity of her case, there were only a small handful of surgeons in the US who are even capable of performing the surgery she needed. Her vet reached out to several of those specialists to determine whether surgery is even an option and, after many prayers, they heard back from a veterinary specialist at UC Davis in California who stated feeling "cautiously optimistic" about performing the surgery. Unfortunately, this required transporting Scout to California for further testing, with no guarantee the surgery could even be performed. We came to California with only hope and were greatly relieved when Scout was elected as a candidate. She was immediately admitted to the hospital and taken to the OR the next day.

Scout had a difficult and strenuous surgery, during which complications arose and required her to remain in ICU post-op. Scout has remained in the hospital all week being closely monitored, however, her surgery appears to have been succesful (only time and healing will fully tell). This entire process has come at a great expense to my parents ($20k and climbing), as they did not previously have pet insurance for Scout. She has been in and out of the pet ER several times in the 2 months prior to surgery and currently requires significant medical management, including taking multiple medications 3x per day and maintaining a strict diet of special liver care food. Due to the mounting costs, I've created this campaign to humbly ask for help in funding Scout's life-saving surgery.

Although we have only known her a short time, Scout has already brought so much joy and light into our lives during a time when we needed it most. This process has been devastating, to say the least, but we too have become cautiously optimistic that she might get to live a long and happy life.
