In the small villages and towns of Gambia, many children grow up without the comfort of a family. Orphans roam the streets, often wearing tattered clothes, their stomachs empty, and their dreams weighed down by hardship. Some lost their parents to illness, poverty, or tragedy, while others never knew the warmth of a home.
In Brikama, for example, seven children live together in a tiny, leaky house. They share what little food they can find, sometimes going a whole day with nothing to eat. Their schoolbooks are old and torn, and some of them cannot afford to go to school at all. The older ones try to take care of the younger, but without support, they struggle just to survive.
Despite their suffering, these children dream of a better life—they hope for an education, for a safe place to sleep, and for people who care. But every day is a battle against hunger, illness, and despair.
Many organizations and generous individuals have helped some children, giving them food, water, clothes, and the chance to learn. Yet, the needs are still overwhelming, and countless children remain unseen and unheard. Theirs is a silent cry for help, a story of resilience and hope in the face of extreme poverty.
