Yesterday morning, Milo ingested a linear foreign body, which is a medical emergency that can quickly become fatal. I rushed him to the emergency veterinary hospital immediately.
The veterinary team first attempted to induce vomiting, but unfortunately it was already too late. His condition escalated rapidly, and he had to be intubated and placed under anesthesia for an emergency endoscopy in an attempt to retrieve the object from his stomach.
By the time the endoscopy was performed, the foreign body had already passed out of his stomach. To make matters worse, he struggled significantly under anesthesia and took a long time to recover, which was terrifying to witness.
The cost of this emergency care was overwhelming:
• $4,034.50 for the endoscopy, anesthesia, recovery, and medications
• $588 for the attempt to induce vomiting
Thankfully, the hospital refunded $2,261, but even with that refund, I am still left owing over $2,300 out of pocket — which has completely drained my emergency pet savings for situations just like this
Right now, we are in a very scary waiting period. If my Milo does not pass the foreign body naturally, it can cause intestinal plication (where the intestines bunch together), leading to peritonitis, a life-threatening condition. If that happens, he would need emergency exploratory surgery, weeks of recovery, and costs that could easily exceed $10,000.
This situation has already been financially life-changing for me for the next several months, and the worst-case scenario would be devastating. I’m doing everything I can to care for him and monitor his condition, but I can’t do this alone.
If you are able to help whether by donating or sharing it would mean the world to me and could make the difference between stability and crisis during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you so much for reading, caring, and supporting
