As you can imagine, a two and a half year battle with cancer can weigh heavy on a family. While none of us can take this horrible diease away, we can help to ease the worry of the financial burden that comes with such an illness.
Joanne is an amazing woman... She is smart, witty, fun loving, caring and exceptionally sweet. She is strong and is the true definition of a fighter. Her battle with cancer has been extremely tough, but she has yet to complain or show anyone how scared she is. She is admired and loved by all!
Here is Joanne's story...
Joanne is a wife and mother of two young boys, ages thirteen and eleven. She was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in October 2013. After six weeks of aggressive radiation and chemotherapy, Joanne underwent surgery to have her esophagus removed.
Unfortunately, by August of 2014, the cancer metastasized, forming a tumor deep in her brain.
She had full brain radiation which slowed the progression, but did not stop the cancer from growing.
Joanne had no option but to undergo surgery in October 2015 to have as much of the tumor removed as possible, followed by a Gamma Knife procedure to treat the remaining remnants of the cancer.
Once again though, the cancer metastasized to other parts of her brain, but this time there is no curable treatment, only consideration to prolong long her life with radiation.
Joanne chose to have another round of full brain radiation, but it had to be stopped as it deteriorated and demented her. The cancer in her brain is spreading faster than the radiation can treat.
Joanne has begun hospice care in her home. She is resting peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Thank you for taking the time to read Joanne's story and considering a donation to help with the expenses the Herron Family encounters.
Love to all! xoxo
