"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
We want to help villagers build homes on an impoverished island of Fiji called Moturiki. The people of Moturiki Island live in tin sheet homes and make $10-$15/week. There is a flourishing forest nearby that was given to the tribe specifically for building homes, but they lack the equipment and training to harvest and mill the wood for proper construction. There are 10 villages on the island. Our vision is to send chainsaws, loggers, a saw mill and supplies to set up and train local men. The plan is to build 50 homes in 5 years. Our part in this plan is to teach the islanders how to fall the trees and to purchase and ship a mill to the island. We will teach the villagers how to run the mill once the trees have been fallen. We are anticipating that the initial 50 homes will be completed between 2[phone redacted] at which point, there are plans to begin construction of medical facilities and schools. We are trying to raise the money for travel and for the purchase and shipping costs for the mill. Thank you for taking the time to read and donate. We appreciate it!
