Support Matthew's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
Matthew is my 30-year-old son.
On Sept 28th, Matthew had a basilar artery dissection that in turn caused him to have a stroke in his brain stem. He was in ICU and put on a heparin drip and ended up having a brain bleed and a second stroke on the left side. He stayed in ICU for around 9 days and then was transported to a nursing/rehab facility for PT. He was pretty much paralyzed on his right side and is trying really hard to learn to walk again and use his right arm. He’s still on puréed foods because he is aspirating.
Matthew doesn’t have any insurance and lives with me. We have an appointment this week with social security to try and get him on disability. They said that could take years to get approved.
We are just trying to get a few things for when he comes home that he will need and help with some of his medical bills. They said he will have home health and a physical therapist come out to the house to work with him. We need to get a shower transfer chair that slides him over into the shower/tub, a bed rail with a raised handle to help him get up, a foot/ankle brace, a walker, and a wheelchair.
It’s going to be a long road to recovery for him, but I’m hopeful! They said he will never walk the same again, even if he does walk at all, and that his speech would always be off. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Prayers are always welcome!
