What is GEO?
Guatemalan Educational Outreach (G.E.O.) is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers from Kentucky, USA and Palencia, Guatemala. Together, we made the Little Mountain School in Joya Honda a reality.
Mission of the Little Mountain School
The Little Mountain School serves impoverished elementary-age students in rural Joya Honda, Guatemala. Most of the families in this area are surviving day to day, and for many people in this area education is not an option. Our purpose is to equip children and families with the tools they need to break the systemic cycle of poverty within this community. In addition to a quality education in Spanish, we teach an English-immersion curriculum to students so they can have more job opportunities in the future. We also provide students with two nutritious meals a day and basic medical and dental care.

The Little Mountain School is expanding for 20 new pre-kindergarten students starting in 2020! We already have a thriving Pre-K and Kindergarten and are adding a new First Grade in 2020! Our long-term goal is to add a new grade level every year until we are able to graduate students from high school, completely fluent in English. They will have the opportunity to immediately start working sustaining positions at banks, schools, or call-centers, or they will be academically ready to be competitive students at the university level.
Goals
Our fundraising goal is $50,000 USD to cover the operating costs for the entire year. This includes 2 meals each day for every student and teacher, basic utilities for the school, salaries for 4 teachers (2 English immersion teachers and 2 Guatemalan content teachers), salary for the principal, and salary for the part-time groundskeeper.

Through the creation of this school, there have already been changes in the community. While children are receiving a life-changing education, the school is also bringing more jobs to Joya Honda.
